Calling Jr

Calling Jr from hana rivas on Vimeo.

We took Tim's advice to try moving a light over Saori's belly. We wanted to see if Jr would react. At one point, I see a small movement on her belly, but not much. Saori felt he was asleep. So the video was taken over by Hana.

"No" - Hana's Favorite Word

Hana has been incrementally adding to her vocabulary. She does not speak many words, but we sense that she has a pretty good understanding of things - in two languages, no less. But her favorite word seems to be "No." She uses it almost automatically, in answer to almost any question - quick and abrupt, forceful but calm, almost cutting you off before you finish your sentence. She pronounces it in her cute little high-pitched voice so it almost sounds like "Nyo." Hana, please get down from the chair - "No." Hana let's take a bath - "No." Hana, do you want some mil- "No." Hana, let's put our shoes - "No." Tonight, we were trying to get her settled down, and Saori took her to lie down on the couch and have a cup of milk. She slowly relaxed into sleep. After about ten minutes of cautious silence, I tiptoed around, made eye-contact with Saori and whispered, "She's asleep. Let's take her to be-" But Hana sprang upwards from the couch before I could finish and, groggy-eyed, she snapped, "No!" Then immediately laid back down, closed her eyes and fell back to sleep.

A New Place for Hana and Her Brother to Send Messages to the World

I decided to make a blog especially for Hana and her soon-to-debut baby brother to post regular video messages to the world.  If you want, you can subscribe to this blog and be notified when a new video is posted.  Hopefully, it will be a regular occurrence.

Hana's Dinner Time

This was when Hana was one year and 4 months old. She was just getting the hang of using a utensil to eat her own food, which caused her some frustration, but not as much as if you tried to feed her.
